Great sandwich shop during the day, plus a crazy fun bar at night.

Menu and service are great.

Always good food & service. The specials are great & the consistency keeps me coming back.

Costumer service is awesome. Food is amazing. Drinks are consistent. Just all around good friendly energy.

For a Reuben from here and I wouldn't say it was anything special. I feel a lot of the sandwiches here are on par with what you could make at home.

The burgers were so good! And they were busy but the staff were attentive and cheerful.

It’s a bit rustic but hey, this is Cortez and you’re treated like a local and old friend the second you walk in. We burgered and saladed and had a splendid and friendly lunch. Pet friendly, and plenty of parking out back. Update--stopped again on our annual insane-hike-too-far-too-high-in-too-much-snow venture in June 2019, and were treated to the same fabulous food and friendliness. We had Aussies with us, and by the time hamburgers were done, we had the family history, linage, and top stories of about half a dozen dogs. Don't want to give the wrong impression--as we saw in Scotland, the dogs just chill quietly under the table--but it is obvious who the "dog people" are by their conversation. Great joint, and as we unwittingly drifted in moments before closing, a special "thank you" for their genuine and unhurried courtesy in feeding our pack of humans and not-humans.

Had the Turkey Waldorf Sandwich today. Yummm! Love their sandwiches here!

Owner is very friendly, food is delicious, great place

Has always been a favorite, love Rick the owner hard working stand up guy and hard worker, great menu, slow service. They need some help.

Food plentlful, reasonable and people friendly

I am a Burger person. Walk into the establishment and look at the menu, To my surprise I saw a hamburger. I ordered it . It looked like this. I highly recommend if you love a fresh gourmet burger.

So friendly! We arrived after lunch time but they went above and beyond to get us fed and happy! The food was awesome, the service was outstanding. Try the fried pickles!

Just traveling to Mesa Verde and came her for lunch. Amazing French Dip sandwich. Great service and friendly staff. Highly recommended.

I really don't know if I should rate a place based on a remark. We kindly asked the waiter (lady) for a straw she said only on request and proceed to get us one. She returned and snarkly replied, "If I had Grandkid's I would like to leave them behind a clean Planet!" And storms off?! What the?😳 Other than that, the food is very good. I tried being nice and letting Roselyn know the Burger's were delicious but she told me, " They're just 2 piece's of meat smashed together!" If she just has dry humor my apologies, but if you're a server you should be a little more courteous to your paying customer's. Just my hard earned 2 cents...

The staff was wonderful... And so kind to my children. The southwest wrap was to die for. Would come back again and again! I have other things to try!

We had chicken fried chicken with real mashed potatoes and real gravy...grilled cheese with bacon and green apples. Nice people. Will eat here again!

Ordered the special stuffed sopapia with green chili. Definitely not a sopapia but a dense bread. Green chili had no flavor which in this part of the country is just wrong. Service by the owner was abrasive and when I asked for a side of sour cream received a side of mayonnaise. Overall decent but could definitely use some improvement.

There service was okay, but the food presently is not as good as in the past.

Great food, but right downtown, so parking can be difficult. The bartender/takeout counter person was absolutely abysmal as a server or waitress (we were getting takeout), no awareness or people skills. But the table waiting and kitchen/manager staff were very helpful and really hustled to take care of customers. On my next visit I will avoid the useless bartender and plan ahead for parking. The menu and bar drinks seemed expansive and somewhat innovative, so I look forward to my next sit down visit.

My sandwich was great as was the clam chowder. Service was excellent and friendly and I was pleased. It might not have been my absolute favorite sandwich in the universe, but everything was right on par for me to give 5 stars.

The Philly Steak and Cheese is amazing. Go for the regular fries, the sweet potato are good but the regular are better.

My family of four stopped in for lunch during a long road trip and were not disappointed. The food was great, it came out quickly. and they had an excellent selection for kids and toddlers. My 4 year old unfortunately got sick while we there and the staff was so gracious about the whole thing. They sent us on our way with water bottles, mint tea and some broth. We’ll definitely stop in on future road trips through Cortez.

I grew up going to nice restaurants and consider myself sort of a "foodie", but I have to live on a budget and watch my"dining out" expenses. All that said, I LOVE Once Upon A Sandwich! It has tremendous food, great atmosphere, and the owners are GREAT! I took out of town friends there yesterday and had a 1/2 cranberry turkey sandwich on home made bread, and a cup of delicious cheddar and kielbasi soup. It was delightful! The daily specials are always great, but, everything else is too!

We were traveling through after visiting Canyon of the Ancients and stopped just before closing time. We didn't realize they were open for lunch only, but they didn't mind our late arrival. Family run business and they appreciate their customers! The menu was crowd pleasing (sandwiches, soups, green chile, stuffed baked potatoes). They did a great job and service was fast. We enjoyed stopping in and certainly would return.
